Fishing With Dynamite: Bio

Thank you for visiting the Official Website of Fishing With Dynamite! If you have never seen this band live, make it a point to do so. FWD has opened for Zac Brown, BlackBerry Smoke, Kevn Kenney (Correct spelling) of Drivin N Cryin, Brantley Gilbert and other great acts! FWD is a Georgia based band who have been influenced by the same type music that the above mentioned musicians have. FWD is getting ready for a great 2010, so check back frequently to make sure you can make the upcoming shows! Fishing with Dynamite is a Country and Southern Rock five piece band out of northeast Georgia. Two of the original members Kelley Mayhue and Jimmy Hughes were saddened when another original member James Quill Smith “Smitty” had a stroke in the mid summer of 2007. Smitty has been a phenomenal lead guitar player for decades and has toured with Three Dog Night, John Mayall, Dr. John, Dobie Gray, Roger McGuinn and many others. If you have the time, please google “James Quill Smith” and review his fantastic career! Smitty is loved and missed by the band and fans alike. We all pray for the progress that he is continuing to make! Jim Watson was asked to join the band after Smitty’s sudden departure and has added another dynamic to the group. With his love for classic rock, southern rock, both old and new country, he is a very versatile musician and singer. He primarily plays bass, but also plays acoustic and lead guitar. Kelley Mayhue is a musician and singer with a love for traditional country, gospel, southern rock and you name it. He plays acoustic, lead guitar and also mandolin on occasion. The thing that sets this group apart from other bands is that at any performance they can split singing duties up four ways and gives the audience a variety instead of just the same old thing. Bruce McCullers is origially from Loganville, GA and has been playing around this area for many years. Bruce admits that he just loves to play a driving lead guitar and FWD knows that to be a definite! Bruce is a great asset to the band and enjoys doing the originals and putting his own stamp on new material. Keep your eyes open for Jay Hefner at any show at anytime playing lead guitar, he's always a welcome brother of FWD! We are very happy to introduce and welcome our new drummer Dale Woodruff to FWD. We all knew after the first song during audition that he was the man for the job! Dale sings lead on a number of songs and is a great addition to the band. Jimmy Hughes grew up with his friend Kelley Mayhue in Gwinnett County, Georgia where they attended school together from first grade through high school. He has been writing music for years and owes Kelley for getting him interested. Jimmy says, “It’s a God given blessing to write and on top of that, it’s therapy.” You can hear his love for music and the therapy it gives in the heartfelt words of his songs – some lyrics are funny, some sarcastic and some are quite serious – telling it like it is! In addition to singing, he enjoys playing rhythm guitar, and the harmonica. Jimmy has had demos in Nashville and has enjoyed some circulation with them, but has decided “if no one else can make it happen then why not do it ourselves!” . All of the songs that were released on the new Fishing with Dynamite album, “Let it Go”, were both lyrically and musically written by him. $2.00 from every CD sold, will be given to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. This band's goal is to help those Children and touch people with their music in the process. Please give this group your attention… you won’t be sorry! As Fishing with Dynamite always says, “We love ya and we need ya!” Thank you for your support!
